ADVANCE FLYING ACADEMY
Air New Zealand offers several pathways for aspiring pilots:
1. Mangōpare Air New Zealand Pilot Cadetship: Launched in 2024, this accelerated program reduces the typical training period from 24-36 months to approximately 14 months. The cadetship covers the majority of training and living expenses, aiming to make pilot careers more accessible. Training begins with 12 months in Arizona, USA, followed by ATR72-600 aircraft type-rating in Dubai. The first cohort commenced in September 2024. Applications for subsequent intakes are announced periodically.
2. Preferred Flight Training Organizations (FTOs): Air New Zealand collaborates with selected FTOs across New Zealand to ensure a steady supply of qualified pilots. These organizations provide comprehensive training aligned with airline standards. One such FTO is the International Aviation Academy of New Zealand (IAANZ) in Christchurch, known for its professional pilot training in an international aviation environment.
