The number of years you need to study in college for aviation depends on your career goal. Here’s a general breakdown:
1. Becoming a Commercial Airline Pilot
- Option 1: Flight School Only (No Degree Required) – 1.5 to 2 years (Obtain a Commercial Pilot License - CPL).
- Option 2: Bachelor's Degree in Aviation (Preferred by Major Airlines) – 3 to 4 years (Plus 1-2 years of flight training).
- Total Time to Become an Airline Pilot: 3 to 6 years, depending on the path.
2. Aeronautical Engineering / Aviation Maintenance
- Bachelor’s Degree – 4 years (Aeronautical Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance).
- Associate Degree – 2 years (Aircraft Mechanic, Aviation Technology).
3. Air Traffic Controller
- Degree Requirement – Some countries require a degree, others only specialized training.
- College + ATC Training – 2 to 4 years, depending on the program.
4. Aviation Management & Other Aviation Careers
- Bachelor’s in Aviation Management – 3 to 4 years.
