Commercial pilot license online

To obtain a commercial pilot license (CPL) online, you need to follow a series of steps, but it's important to note that flight training itself cannot be fully completed online. Here's an overview of how the process typically works:

1. Online Ground School

  • Many flight schools and training providers offer online ground school courses. These courses cover theoretical aspects like aerodynamics, navigation, weather, regulations, and more.
  • Some well-known platforms include Sporty's Pilot Shop, King Schools, and AviationAcademy.

2. Flight Training

  • You cannot learn how to fly entirely online. You need hands-on flight experience at a certified flight school. This includes dual instruction with an instructor and solo flying hours.
  • To obtain a CPL, you’ll typically need around 250 hours of total flight time, including specific types of training (cross-country, night flying, etc.).

3. Online Testing and Exams

  • After completing your ground school and flight training, you will need to pass written exams.
  • You can prepare for these exams online through practice tests or using study materials provided by your school or online platforms like AviationExam.
  • The FAA or your local aviation authority (depending on your country) typically administers the written exam.

4. Medical Certification

  • A medical examination from an aviation medical examiner is required to ensure you're physically fit to fly. This step can’t be done online.

5. Final Flight Check

  • After completing the required flight hours and coursework, you will need to take a check ride with a certified examiner to demonstrate your skills and proficiency.

6. Certification

  • Once you pass your exams and check ride, you’ll be granted your Commercial Pilot License (CPL).

Recommended Online Flight Schools/Programs:

  • Pilot Institute (offers online ground school)
  • MzeroA Flight Training (has online resources for CPL training)
  • ATP Flight School (in some locations, offers integrated programs with online learning)

Important Considerations:

  • Regulations and requirements may vary depending on your country. Be sure to check with your local aviation authority.
  • You still need to do practical, in-person flight training, as the skills required to fly a plane are not something that can be learned purely online.
