ADVANCE FLYING ACADEMY
To obtain a Commercial Pilot License (CPL), you must pass several tests, including both written and practical exams. Here's an overview of the process:
1. Written Test (Knowledge Test)
The written test is administered by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the U.S. (or the relevant aviation authority in other countries). This test assesses your knowledge in various areas such as:
- Airspace regulations
- Aircraft systems
- Weather and meteorology
- Flight operations and procedures
- Navigation and flight planning
- Flight theory (aerodynamics)
- Airline operations
The test typically consists of multiple-choice questions. You will need to score a passing grade, typically 70% or higher, to move forward in the process.
2. Practical Test (Check Ride)
Once you have completed the required flight training hours, you will need to pass a practical test with an FAA examiner (or the equivalent authority). This test, also called a check ride, involves you flying an actual aircraft under the supervision of the examiner, who will evaluate your flying skills in various maneuvers, such as:
- Pre-flight checks
- Takeoffs and landings
- Navigation and flight planning
- Emergency procedures
- Instrument flying (if applicable)
The examiner will also assess your ability to handle unusual or emergency situations that could arise during a flight.
3. Oral Exam
During the check ride, there is also an oral exam where the examiner will ask you questions to test your knowledge of the flight regulations, aircraft systems, and other relevant topics.
Requirements to Take the Test:
Before you can take the CPL tests, you must meet the following requirements:
- Age: You must be at least 18 years old.
- Flight Hours: You must have accumulated at least 250 total flight hours, including specific hours for cross-country flights, night flights, and flight time as pilot-in-command.
- Medical Certificate: You must hold a second-class medical certificate issued by an FAA-certified medical examiner (or the relevant authority in your country).
- Private Pilot License (PPL): You must hold a valid Private Pilot License (PPL) before applying for a CPL.
Successfully passing both the written and practical tests will allow you to earn your Commercial Pilot License.
