Getting a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) allows you to be paid for flying. Here’s how to achieve it:
1. Meet the Basic Requirements
- Age: At least 18 years old.
- Medical Certificate: Obtain a 2nd Class Medical Certificate (or equivalent in your country).
- Private Pilot License (PPL): You must already have a PPL before starting CPL training.
2. Build Flight Experience
- Minimum 250 total flight hours (in the U.S.), including:
- 100 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC).
- 50 hours of cross-country flying.
- 10 hours of instrument training.
- 10 hours in a complex or technically advanced aircraft.
3. Complete Ground School & Written Exam
- Topics include aerodynamics, regulations, weather, navigation, and flight operations.
- Pass the FAA Commercial Pilot Knowledge Test (or your country’s equivalent).
4. Flight Training & Check Ride
- Advanced flight maneuvers (steep turns, lazy eights, chandelles).
- Emergency procedures and commercial-level precision.
- Pass the CPL Check Ride with an examiner.

- Charter pilot (Part 135 operations).
- Corporate aviation.
- Airline pilot (requires Airline Transport Pilot License – ATPL).
