 ADVANCE FLYING ACADEMY

air canada pilot training program

Air Canada does not offer a direct cadet or ab initio pilot training program. Instead, they typically recruit pilots who have gained experience through regional carriers or other professional flying roles. One common pathway to becoming an Air Canada pilot is through their regional partner, Jazz Aviation.

Jazz Aviation Pathways Program (Jazz APP): Jazz Aviation operates the Jazz Approach program in partnership with CAE and Cygnet Aviation Academy. This innovative pilot training program is designed for individuals with little or no flight experience and offers a structured path to becoming a First Officer with Jazz. The program includes an 18-month Integrated Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) training in Kingston, Ontario, followed by Bombardier CRJ type training at CAE Toronto. Upon successful completion and meeting certain conditions, graduates are offered positions as First Officers at Jazz. Jazz pilots have flow-through opportunities to Air Canada, making this program a viable pathway for aspiring Air Canada pilots.

Air Canada Pilot Recruitment: Air Canada seeks pilots who meet specific qualifications, including:

  • A minimum of 1,000 hours of fixed-wing flying time.
  • Completion of schooling to the university entrance level.
  • Ability to pass Air Canada and Transport Canada medical and visual acuity requirements for a Category 1 medical certificate.
  • Possession of a Canadian Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) with a current Group 1 (Multi-engine) Instrument Rating.
  • Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status.

Preference is given to candidates with additional qualifications, such as a degree or diploma from a recognized institution, aviation college credentials, or prior commercial or military flight experience.

Pursuing a career as a pilot with Air Canada typically involves gaining experience through regional carriers like Jazz Aviation, participating in structured training programs, and meeting the airline's specific hiring criteria.
