ADVANCE FLYING ACADEMY
Airplane navigation systems help pilots determine their position, follow flight routes, and land safely. These systems use a mix of traditional and modern technologies.
Types of Airplane Navigation Systems:
- Inertial Navigation System (INS) – Uses accelerometers and gyroscopes to track movement without external signals.
- Global Positioning System (GPS) – Provides precise location and routing using satellites. Used in modern aircraft for navigation, approach, and autopilot guidance.
- Radio Navigation Aids: VOR (VHF Omnidirectional Range) – Guides aircraft along airways using ground-based radio beacons. DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) – Measures distance from a ground station. ILS (Instrument Landing System) – Provides lateral and vertical guidance for landing. NDB (Non-Directional Beacon) – Older system using radio signals for navigation.
- Flight Management System (FMS) – An advanced computer system that integrates GPS, radio navigation, and autopilot to optimize flight paths.
- Air Traffic Control (ATC) Radar & ADS-B: Radar – Used by ATC to track aircraft. ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast) – Transmits aircraft position to ATC and nearby planes.
