ADVANCE FLYING ACADEMY
The FAA Commercial Pilot License (CPL) requires a minimum of 250 flight hours. Here’s how those hours break down:
1. Total Flight Time:
- 250 hours of total flight time.
2. Pilot-in-Command (PIC) Hours:
- 100 hours of PIC flight time.
3. Cross-Country Flight Time:
- 50 hours of cross-country flight time, which is flight time during which the aircraft is flown from one point to another.
4. Night Flight Time:
- 10 hours of night flight time, including:
- One night cross-country flight of at least 100 miles.
5. Instrument Training:
- 20 hours of instrument flight training with an instructor, which includes:
- 10 hours of flight training in a complex aircraft (aircraft with retractable landing gear, flaps, and a controllable pitch propeller).
6. Solo Flight Time:
- 10 hours of solo flight time, which must include:
- At least 5 hours of solo cross-country time.
7. Additional Requirements:
- A minimum of 50 hours of cross-country flight time (may overlap with other categories).
- 10 hours of flight training with an instructor on specific commercial maneuvers.
These are the FAA's minimum requirements, and many flight schools may have their own additional requirements or expectations to ensure you are fully prepared for the CPL check ride and other commercial pilot responsibilities.
